KEY STAGE 3 CURRICULUM
KS3 Courses Developed by Expert
The KS3 years can be the trickier years for some students as this is the time when the hormones kick-in and for some young people, life can become a little more difficult to navigate. At The Online School we recognise that these difficulties can arise and this is why we pride ourselves on the pastoral programme we have designed for our students. Pupils are encouraged to engage in study and discussion of subjects that help them understand the world around them from the perspective of a child who is transforming into a young adult. In addition to personal, social, health and economic education our students start to consider their future options by taking part in career development studies that are not solely concerned with the prospect of a university education, although many take this pathway. Some students are inspired by delving into the prospects of a vocational career or apprenticeship, perhaps leading them to found their own business. We aim to provide careers advice that fits the student’s talents and aptitudes.
Our KS3 courses engage students in advanced academic knowledge, ensuring that they also become skilled in critical thinking and persuasive argument. We aim to strengthen both written and oral communication skills at every opportunity. The Online school also inculcates a sense of personal responsibility and intellectual maturity in its students as they progress through their teens. During year 9 we help our students make their decisions about what GCSE subjects they would like to take, thus ensuring that they make a smooth transition into KS4. In science pupils work with the central concepts of hypothesis formation, experimentation and analysis. In maths they focus on problem solving and logic and in English they analyse how texts create meaning at all levels.
